Chilling in Petrollia

Yea, I'm guessing you haven't heard of it before. It is south and west of Eureka, and is the only stop on the 70? mile loop known as the Lost Coast. Very remote. Very beautiful. The two thinks I think I'll remember most from the ride are the smells - it's right along the ocean with lots of pine trees - and the rough road surface for biking.

I made it to the Lost Coast Inn and got the one and only available room, I think calling ahead was a good idea but I'm not sure if there was going to be any competition to hang out here tonight. But I'm got my room, my reading sunroom, my eating sunroom, and my private yard. Life is very good.

I also got to the store before closing time (5:30) and loaded up on whatever was immediately edible(to me), I think I came back with a selection of 6 or 8 things to snack my way through the evening. 6 or 8 about matches the bottle of liquids I bought to replish and fill the water bottles for tomorrow, I think it's 40 miles from here tomorrow before I get to another place to restock.

I did over 4,000 feet of climbing to get in here, and it looks like at least that much to get back out the other way. I suspect I'll sleep well tonight, I don't think I've ever been in a quieter place in my life.

Jon,
most excellent riding. Sounds a bit grim but good that you made it to the store before they closed!

Meanwhile, I must say that Latvia is not as scenic as I had hoped.
